Expand the mine

Alcoa plans to expand the Huntly mine into two new areas: Myara North and Holyoake. The expansion will provide bauxite for the Pinjarra and Kwinana refineries.

Alcoa has a second bauxite mine in the jarrah forest which is south of Huntly mine. This mine supplies the Wagerup refinery is undergoing its own giant expansion for mining in 2022.

Clear it faster

Alcoa is currently approved to clear an average of 565 hectares of jarrah forest per year up until 2024. From 2025 to 2035 they will radically increase their average annual rate of clearing by 54%.

Alcoa proposes to clear 870 hectares of precious and irreplaceable forest each year. Note that this figure does not include clearing at Willowdale mine.

Increase production

Alcoa proposes to increase production of Alumina at their Pinjarra Refinery by 5%.

After a successful trial, Alcoa wants to continue exporting raw bauxite.
